1987 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

The vehicle pictured is a 1987 Cadillac Sedan DeVille which was used over the years as an executive driven company car by Capstone Consulting Group located in Chicago. The car was well maintained and cared for, but is now no longer driveable and is being sold for parts.

The Cadillac DeVille has long been considered one of America's best-selling luxury cars. The Deville has been through several reincarnations over its over fifty years of being a part of the long tradition of Cadillac automotive excellence. In 1949, the Deville was introduced and was only offered as a Coupe; however, in 1954 the popular sedan style made its way into the mainstream. One of the most popular cars in the seventies was the Cadillac Deville ~ Fleetwood model, which was later sold as an optional luxury model in the eighties as a part of the DeVille line. It has been one of Cadillac's best selling vehicles since that time. However the DeVille era ended in 2005; this was the year that the final DeVille came off the production line and so ends the Cadillac DeVille's fifty plus year run.

Cadillac was the first automobile maker to mass produce a V-8 engine. The company has produced eight generations of V-8's since 1914, and today is the only General Motors division to retain its own V8 design. The FWD 1987 Cadillac DeVille was powered with the HT-4100 a V-8, 4.1L fuel injected engine. The engine is constructed of an aluminum block with cast iron cylinder heads. The engine is transversely mounted and provides power to the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transaxle transmission via independent drive axles.

The engine in this vehicle was replaced by Pedersen's Applied Mechanics in Wisconsin with a GM Goodwrench Replacement Engine in 1996. The original engine lasted 135,000 miles. This replacement engine has been 'gently used' and has 46,000 documented miles. The cost of the engine replacement in 1996 was $2,450.00. The GM Part Number is 03636832. The HT-4100 engine is no longer available.

The 4.1 L engine block was also used in the front wheel Cadillac Fleetwood, Seville, and Eldorado. In 1987 Cadillac introduced the Allante, an ultraluxurious sports roadster. The Allante was introduced in March 1987 by Cadillac as "the General Motors top of the line flagship car." The body and interior were built by Pininfarina in Turin, Italy. In 1987 3,366 Allante's came off of the production line at at factory price of $54,700. The Allante was powered by a specially tuned version of the HT-4100 engine that had several performance upgrades.

The specs for the HT-4100 engine used in the DeVille for 1987 are 125 hp (93 kW) @ 4200 rpm and 190 ft·lbf of torque at 2000 rpm. It had a 3.465 in (88 mm) bore and a 3.307 in (84 mm) stroke for a displacement of 249 in³ (4.1 L). The key difference in the HT-4100 engine which was used in the DeVille was that it had Digital Fuel Injection while the Allante had a perfomance oriented Sequential Fuel Injection. The Allante version of the 4.1L also used special magnesium rocker arm covers and had an aluminum oil pan.

The purchaser will be responsible for the removal (or cost of removal) of the engine from the vehicle and the cost of shipping. All costs of removal of the engine are the responsibility of the purchaser and must be paid in advance.

Also available for purchase is the automatic transaxle transmission which was also replaced in 1996 at a cost of $1,900. The GM replacement transmission was a complete assembly removal and replacement which was performed by a GM Dealership. This replacement transmission has only 32,000 documented miles.
