Jason Ormond, Whitney Young High School, Class of 2009 is playing for USA Athletes International representing the United States as a player and ambassador in the 2008 Torneo Citta di Rimini Baseball Tournament in Rimini, Italy. The coaches are David Vince of Clearwater High School and Tracy Paulton of Pinnellas Park High School. Both high schools are in Florida.
Coach Vince has 421 career wins with coaching experience on the international, college, high school level and has been a ten time coach of the year recipient. His record includes 10 district champion teams, 8 district runner-up teams, two state final four teams, 1 state runner-up team, and 1 college conference championship. He has coached baseball in Holland, Spain, Czech Republic, Australia, Sweden, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. The roster includes players from Florida, Illinois, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Coach Paulton is the pitching coach at Pinellas Park High School. His experience includes assistant coach at nationally ranked Seminole High School, 6 years as the assistant coach at Countryside High School, where he worked under former major leaguer, Darnell Coles. He also has 10 years of playing experience above the high school level (college, semi-pro), and has worked baseball camps for Florida State, and All-Star Baseball. He is now the owner operator of Super Skill Baseball Academy in Florida.
The team will meet and travel from New York Kennedy International Airport to Rome, Italy on July 8 and then travels north to the tournament venue which is located on the Adriatic coast near Venice. The tournament is hosted by the Rimini Pirates Baseball Club of the Italian Professional Baseball League. The USA Athletes organization was established in 1991 and provides athletes the opportunity to experience international competition as well as the history and culture of another country. The 16 man roster team is scheduled to play the 18-U Italian National Team. USA Team Athletes must sign a release as the organization retains all television and video rights.
The team will visit Milan and Florence before returning to the United States on July 17, 2008.

I have been playing competitive travel baseball since age 10 and am fortunate to now play for a high school that has a highly functioning baseball program. The Whitney Young Magnet High School Dolphin Baseball Program (28-4) has been one of the top rated programs in the State of Illinois for several years. In May, Whitney Young won the State of Illinois 2008 Regional Championship and in April 2008 my high school team traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to play in the Westminster Sunshine Baseball Classic Tournament. In both 2008 and 2007 the Whitney Young Dolphins were the City of Chicago High School Champions. Also we were recently ranked as one of the "Top Ten" Illinois High School baseball teams by both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times for 2008 and also in 2007.
Besides my high school team, the most recent travel teams I have played with has been the Chicago Clubbers and the Chicago Nationals. Over the last year I have had the opportunity to visit several baseball camps at the following universities: Stanford University, Dartmouth, University of Illinois, Creighton, Notre Dame and Illinois State University. I have also attended a Perfect Game showcase in February 2008 and attended the June 9-10, 2008 Perfect Game - Academic Students Camp held in Fort Meyers, Florida. I also attended the Stanford All Star Baseball Camp in Palo Alto, California on June 27-30, 2008. I am a National Honor Society student with a 4.6 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and have an interest in traveling abroad and am looking forward to representing the USA in Italy. I have strong Spanish language skills as I have been studying Spanish as a part of my academic curriculum for over 10 years. I plan to major in business in college and have a personal goal of playing Division I Baseball.
